A bakkie parked in front of me, and two people got climbed out of it; a middle-aged man with a significantly old face, and a woman I couldn't recognise. The man was smiling and greeted me familiarly, though I couldn't recognise him at all; the woman I recognised as my aunt when she spoke, but I still couldn't see her face as it was shrouded in a dark cloud. She was holding a piece of old plank (which had decayed a bit) out to me, saying I should take it. I asked what it was and the man said that it was a "prayer plank". I noted that he looked and sounded anxious and desperate. I then recognized him as my cousin, the firstborn of my aunt, the woman he was with. At my confusion, he asked if I was someone who prays, and I answered him "Not really" but I took the plank anyway, inwardly vowing to use it later. It looked like we were at my grandma's old cattle post, but when we entered the hut, it looked like the childhood hut which I grew up in, which belonged to one of my maternal aunts. Mother and son, still anxious, sat on the bed, waiting for my sister I think, while I just stood beside the bed, holding the plank. Shortly, my older sister came into the house, and after greetings, she told me to pray using the plank. I lighted a sliver sticking out from the plank like a candle and started praying silently. Mother and son were suddenly covered in a sheet in the bed, and I continued to pray, until the fire went out on the plank. Satisfied, I told sundry and all that I was done praying.
This dream is rich with symbolism and reflects a deep exploration of familial ties, spiritual inquiries, and the processes of healing or closure.
Bakkie (Pickup Truck): This vehicle can symbolize journeys, both physical and metaphorical. Parked in front of you, it indicates an opportunity or situation that has come into your life unexpectedly, perhaps presenting a choice or a need for reflection.
Middle-Aged Man: Recognized as your cousin, he embodies familial connections and possibly aspects of your family legacy or lineage. His old face suggests wisdom or experiences that he carries, yet his anxiety and desperation may reflect a concern or unspoken familial pressures.
Woman with a Dark Cloud: This figure, initially unrecognizable but later linked to your aunt, might symbolize unresolved emotions or aspects of your family history that remain obscured or unclear. The cloud signifies something that is not fully understood or is perhaps emotionally charged.
Old Decayed Plank: The "prayer plank" symbolizes a vessel for your spiritual or emotional expression. Its decay could represent the wear and tear of past struggles or family burdens that have been carried through generations. This plank serves as a bridge between the past and the present, linking your heritage to your own spiritual journey.
Taking the Plank: Your choice to accept the plank despite not being an avid practitioner of prayer underscores a willingness to engage with your family's traditions, legacies, or even traumas. This act implies an openness to healing or understanding a part of your identity that may have been neglected.
The Act of Praying with the Plank: Engaging in prayer signifies a search for guidance, wisdom, or solace. This moment denotes an opportunity for inner reflection, perhaps calling for embraces of your own spirituality, regardless of previous beliefs or practices. The presence of your cousin and aunt during this act adds a layer, suggesting that the exploration of these familial connections may be essential for your personal growth.
Fire Going Out: The extinguishing of the fire could symbolize the completion or cessation of a phase of your journey. It might indicate feelings of fulfillment at having taken a step towards healing or accepting familial burdens, but also a recognition that certain aspects of your past may no longer have power over you.
Overall, this dream presents a compelling narrative of navigating familial ties, personal growth, and seeking spiritual grounding.
